The Interview with Lena
Lena, what excites you about your apprenticeship at NOFFZ?
“At NOFFZ, what particularly excites me is the dynamic and friendly atmosphere of this family-owned company. There’s a strong emphasis on imparting a broad spectrum of knowledge beyond just programming and on developing my strengths. It’s evident that a culture of helpfulness is highly valued here, and you never feel alone. I also appreciate that even at this early stage of my apprenticeship, my opinion is actively sought after, and I’m involved in many discussions. I feel like a valued member of the team, where everyone treats me with respect.”
How did you come to choose a technical profession?
“I’ve been interested in technology since childhood. In school, I realized that I have a knack for mathematical and logical thinking, which is probably why my best subject was mathematics 😉 Due to my interests, I decided to pursue a degree in business. During this time, I was introduced to programming, and it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to pursue something in that direction. After completing an internship at NOFFZ, both NOFFZ and I decided to pursue an apprenticeship as an IT specialist in application development. So, a new apprenticeship position was created at NOFFZ, which is also being offered this year.”
What or who inspired you the most to choose a technical career?
“My interest was nurtured from an early age by my mother. Additionally, I was greatly inspired by the computer science classes in school.”
What message would you like to convey to young women interested in technology?
“Don’t let stereotypes hold you back, pursue what you’re passionate about.”
How do you think we can attract more girls/women to technical jobs?
“Fundamentally, education and presentations about professions in schools are very important. Furthermore, more attention should be paid to individual interests and fostering them. Ultimately, professions should not be categorized as ‘for women’ or ‘for men’ but should be communicated in a gender-neutral manner.”
