The interview with Vanessa
Vanessa, what excites you about your job at NOFFZ?
“What I particularly enjoy about my job at NOFFZ is that you are always at the forefront of the latest technologies. Engineers from various industries come to us for test solutions for their electronic devices, such as those related to autonomous driving, electromobility, smart homes, and more. These devices are often still in development, meaning they are not yet on the market and feature the latest interfaces and functions. Technical marketing is also highly exciting as it serves as a bridge to many departments. In marketing these complex products, it’s crucial to describe and organize the intricate issues simply and find the appropriate media and events.”
How did you come to choose a technical profession?
“In school, I took advanced courses in math and physics and even enjoyed studying for the Abitur. This sparked my curiosity and understanding rather than frustration and obligation. It was clear to me that I wanted to study physics. Although women were in the minority in this field, there were neither barriers nor prejudices. Through the master’s program, I learned to work independently. The scientific experimental work in fundamental research was very exciting, but it also had its downsides—nights in the lab, a lot of theory and research, and friends and family didn’t quite understand what I was doing unless you married your fellow student. After completing my master’s, I moved away from academia and shifted towards application, where I could interact with people, assist, and explain.”
How did you come to your current job?
“My first job was in technical support for measurement technology. There, I dealt with everything that wasn’t working, which was quite frustrating. However, the motivating aspects included teaching software courses for customers and attending and working at trade shows. For me, marketing then emerged as a good career option. I was also attracted to visiting and organizing trade shows, and the fact that technical marketing focuses on ‘what works’ and on showcasing the great projects accomplished with the company’s products.”
What positive experiences have you had as a woman in a technical profession?
„As a woman in a technical profession, I have particularly positive experiences working in mixed teams. I find it enriching when different perspectives come together—whether through different genders, age groups, or educational backgrounds. This diversity leads to exciting and creative collaboration, as various viewpoints, experiences, and approaches come together. Teamwork becomes not only more effective but also truly enjoyable. “
